The Audi R8 V10 Coupé (2020) embodies the very essence of the modern German supercar: a rare balance between extreme performance, everyday use and technological refinement. Developed by Audi Sport, it represents one of the last sports cars with an atmospheric V10 engine, an architecture that has become almost mythical.
At the heart of the R8 is the atmospheric V10 5.2 FSI, mounted in a central position at the rear. In its V10 (not Performance) version, it develops 570 strokes and 560 Nm of torque, delivered in a linear fashion up to more than 8,500 rpm. This engine, paired with the Lamborghini Huracán, offers instant response and a raucous, metallic and deeply emotional sound, signature of atmospheric Audi Sport engines.
Power is transmitted to the four wheels via the four-wheel variable ratio system, combined with the S tronic 7-speed double-clutch gearbox. Passing speeds are brilliant, ensuring optimum traction and impressive stability, even during the most violent accelerations. The chassis rests on the Audi Space Frame structure made up of aluminum and carbon, ensuring high rigidity while maintaining its power. The sporty suspension, the low center of gravity and the oversized brakes (carbon-ceramic as an option) give the R8 a precise, smooth and reassuring handling, as effective on a fast route as on an occasional circuit.
Stylistically, the 2020 R8 Coupé adopts the restyling of the second generation: more aggressive lines, wider air intakes, a marked front mudguard, a massive front diffuser and prominent oval hatches. The whole remains smooth, fluid and instantly identifiable as an Audi Sport, with a technological elegance rather than an outlandish aggressiveness.
The interior is centered around the driver, with the Audi Virtual Cockpit bringing together all the driving information, high-end materials (Nappa leather, alcantara, carbon) and ergonomics designed for performance without sacrificing comfort. Despite its radical position, the R8 is still highly usable on a daily basis for a supercar.
