The Lamborghini Murciélago, first presented at the IAA Frankfurt in 2001, was the first Lamborghini developed under Audi regime. The midengine, V12-powered sportscar, named after a spanish fighting bull, was produced between 2001 and 2010, in the end over 4000 cars. The Murciélago is the second REITER racecar based on a Lamborghini. Two years after the Murciélago was presented, the race version was shown to the public at the IAA 2003.
Shortly after that, the first car entered a race event in Monza.

From 2003 to 2010, REITER built 16 Murciélago racecars. Eleven of them in the first specification called "R-GT" and only five cars in "R-SV" spec.
After racing the R-GT specification from 2003 until 2009, REITER ngineering started development of a race version based on the recently presented LP670 Murciélago. The "Super Veloce" special version of the street car, now comes with a 6.5L even more powerful V12 engine. At the 24H of Spa in 2009, the new model called "R-SV" was presented and confirmed to join the FIA GT1 Wold Championship to compete against Maserati flagship MC12 GT1, Aston Martin DB9R GT1, Matech Ford GT GT1 and the GT1 Chevrolet Corvette.
