At the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit in June 2025, PEUGEOT unveiled a highly anticipated return to its celebrated GTi lineage: the E-208 GTi.
This fully electric hot hatch ushers in a new era for the revered GTi badge, combining Peugeot’s rich performance heritage with cutting-edge electric technology. While the model year is officially 2026, the reveal in mid-2025 sets the stage for its production.
While maintaining the recognizable silhouette of the standard E-208, the GTi version has been significantly enhanced in both aesthetics and dynamics. Its stance is immediately more aggressive, with a body lowered by 30 mm and tracks widened by 56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear.
Distinctive 18-inch wheels, featuring a perforated design reminiscent of the classic 205 GTi’s “Hole” wheels, contribute to its powerful presence and aid in brake cooling. Red accents, a hallmark of GTi models, are strategically placed on the grille, around emblems, within the headlights, on wheel arches, brake calipers, and beneath the rear spoiler, creating a tasteful yet assertive visual identity.
The interior continues this theme with bright red carpets, floor mats, seat belts, and sporty Alcantara® and perforated leather seats with integrated headrests and red stitching, all paying homage to the 205 GTi.
Powering the E-208 GTi is a robust M4+ electric motor, producing 280 hp (206 kW) and an impressive 345 Nm (255 lb-ft) of torque. This powertrain allows the electric hot hatch to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a brisk 5.7 seconds, with a top speed limited to 180 km/h (112 mph).
The 54 kWh (gross) battery pack offers a WLTP estimated range of up to 350 km (217 miles) and supports rapid charging from 20 to 80% in under 30 minutes with a 100 kW DC public charger.
Peugeot Sport engineers, leveraging their World Endurance Championship (WEC) experience, meticulously tuned the chassis.
The suspension features specific hydraulic bump stops and a new rear anti-roll bar, alongside Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, providing a precise balance of track efficiency and everyday comfort.
A limited-slip differential is integrated for optimal handling and traction during cornering, and the steering system has been recalibrated for a more direct and engaging response. Larger 355 mm front disc brakes with four-piston calipers ensure potent stopping power and optimized cooling.
While official pricing had not been announced at the time of its reveal, industry experts anticipate the E-208 GTi to be in the region of £40,000 (approximately €45,000) when it goes on sale, expected before the end of 2025, with deliveries commencing in early 2026.
This positions it as a premium offering in the electric hot hatch segment, building on the legacy that began with the iconic 205 GTi four decades ago.
