In philosophy, it's a well-known principle: to solve a problem, you need to look at the world from the outside. In motor sport too, revisiting the fundamentals can be decisive. Porsche engineers have modified the position of the engine and rethought the transmission of the 911 RSR. The gain in position that was achieved allowed a more imposing rear diffuser to be fitted. This will transform the test into a time gain on the tour.
First of all, nothing seems to distinguish this 911 from its illustrious predecessors. However, with the exception of the door handles, everything has changed under the carbon fiber coke of the second Porsche 911 RSR of type 991. The car has undergone radical changes: chassis, floors, aerodynamics, engine and transmission. «We have discovered the most extraordinary and spectacular 911 of all time,» says Marco Ujhasi, the factory's Sport GT director. «It best exploits the latitudes offered by the redevelopment. »
En endurance, les clés du succès sont la vitesse et la constance. La victoire dépend également de l’usure des pneus. Il faut donc veiller à une juste répartition de la charge entre les essieux. Sur le modèle…

In endurance, the clues to success are victory and consistency. Victory also depends on tire wear. It is therefore necessary to ensure a fair distribution of the load between the drivers. In the previous model, the engine in the forward position certainly ensured optimum traction, but sometimes to the detriment of the tires. The new 911 RSR redresses the balance: the position of the powerful six-cylinder atmospheric engine has been moved to the center, away from the rear axle. The new position of the 4.0 engine has allowed a larger rear diffuser to be fitted, combined with an aileron inspired by that of the 919 Hybrid, Porsche's LMP1 prototype.
«Never has a GT model of the brand been tested as much as the 911 RSR,» said Marco Ujhasi, recalling the 35,000 km of track covered. The season began with the start of the new generation of Porsche GT models, with the start of the 24 Hours of Daytona in January. In total, the 911 RSR will run 116 races in 2017 and will take part in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which includes the 24 Mans races, as well as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The time has come for the 911 RSR to put its completely rethought design to the test.
