The GR Corolla was reborn out of a strong desire to bring back the Corolla that captivated Toyota customers.
In response to this demand, the development of the GR Corolla is based on the concept of creating a better race car—one that focuses on fine-tuning the vehicle to win races and making it commercially available.
To ensure that the GR Corolla can be driven with confidence and delivers a thrilling experience in a variety of situations, the prototype was tested not only on race tracks but also on extremely challenging dirt roads and snow-covered roads.
Compact and Powerful Machine
The GR Corolla offers a more powerful version of the same 1,600 cc inline-3-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled engine found in the GR Yaris, with a maximum output of 304 PS at 6,500 rpm, while the GR Yaris produces only 272 PS at 6,500 rpm.
Meanwhile, the torque from the GR Corolla's engine, which is transmitted to the 6-speed manual transmission, reaches 370 Nm at 3,000–5,550 rpm.
Exhaust efficiency has been improved to achieve higher output from compact, lightweight, high-power engines.
