The Storia is a compact hatchback from Daihatsu that went on sale in 1998. The flagship model boasts a mediocre 1000cc engine and 60 horsepower, but the X4 is a 4WD model powered by a newly developed 713cc turbo engine.

The engine displacement, intended to allow it to compete in the under-1000cc class even when multiplied by the 1.4 coefficient imposed on turbo cars by rally regulations, suggests that it is a genuine motorsports base vehicle.

Apart from X4 decals, there are no special features on the exterior or interior to enhance its sporty ambiance. Early models lack power windows, let alone air conditioning. Aluminum wheels are optional, and the body color is white only.

However, in terms of driving, the car is equipped with a full range of specialized features, including a cross transmission, a reinforced clutch, a mechanical limited slip differential, and even an intercooler cooling spray. Some models feature a large turbine with a boost pressure of over 2.0 kg, resulting in 120 horsepower.

In fact, it boasted unbeatable strength in the small-displacement classes of rallies and dirt trials in Japan at the time, making it an undeniable car in terms of speed.

ストーリアは1998年に販売が開始されたダイハツのコンパクトハッチバックである。主力販売グレードは1000cc、60馬力と極めて凡庸なスペックであるが、この車体に新規開発の713ccターボエンジンを搭載した4WDグレードがX4だ。

ラリー競技のレギュレーションとしてターボ車に設けられた1.4の係数が掛けられても1000cc以下のクラスに参戦出来る事を意図した排気量から分かる通り、生粋のモータースポーツ用ベース車両である。

外装および内装にスポーティな雰囲気を盛り上げる特別な装備はX4のデカール以外に一切なく、初期型はパワーウィンドウどころかエアコンすら装着されてない有様で、アルミホイールはオプション設定、ボディカラーは白のみとなる。

しかし、走りに関する部分では専用装備が充実しており、クロスミッションに強化クラッチ、機械式LSDにインタークーラーの冷却スプレーまで備える。大型タービンは設定ブースト圧が2.0キロを超える個体も存在し、結果として120馬力を発揮。
