“A cutting-edge FCEV with a sleek, INITIUM-inspired design and a powerful 190 kW hydrogen powertrain for eco-conscious exhilaration.”
The all-new 2026 Hyundai NEXO, a significant leap in hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) technology, was officially unveiled at the Seoul Mobility Show in April 2025.
This second-generation NEXO builds upon Hyundai’s extensive commitment to hydrogen mobility, showcasing a bold redesign and enhanced performance. Its global market release is anticipated later in 2025.
The exterior design of the 2026 NEXO is heavily influenced by the INITIUM concept, which debuted in October 2024. It embodies Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design language, emphasizing durability and structural integrity through robust lines and a sturdy stance.
While sharing the same 2,790 mm wheelbase as its predecessor, the new NEXO is slightly longer (4,750 mm), wider (1,865 mm), and taller (1,640-1,673 mm), contributing to a more imposing presence. Distinctive “HTWO lamps” and “9 Dot lamps” define its FCEV-specific aesthetic, further highlighting its hydrogen identity.
Underneath its striking new skin, the 2026 NEXO features substantial powertrain advancements. The fuel cell (FC) system and power electronics (PE) system have been significantly enhanced, increasing the total power output from 135 kW to 190 kW.
The battery capacity has also doubled from 40 kW to 80 kW. These improvements translate to a quicker 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.8 seconds, a notable improvement over the previous model’s 9.2 seconds. The hydrogen tank capacity has increased to 6.69 kg (from 6.33 kg), targeting an impressive range of over 700 km on a single five-minute fill-up.
Inside, the 2026 NEXO offers a spacious and comfortable cabin with a driver-centric design. It features a sleek curved display that integrates a 12.3-inch driver information cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment monitor, powered by the ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) system with OTA software updates and generative AI voice recognition.
Passengers in the rear benefit from ventilated seats and increased headroom and shoulder room. The vehicle also boasts advanced safety features, including Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA), and Lane Following Assist (LFA), alongside a multi-skeleton structure and nine airbags for enhanced passive safety.
While official pricing for the 2026 Hyundai NEXO has not yet been announced, it is expected to be higher than the current model, which ranges from approximately $61,470 to $64,920 in the US and starts around €69,995 in the Netherlands. Its introduction marks a crucial step in Hyundai’s vision for a hydrogen-powered future.
