The Diablo replaced the Countach in the early ’90s, continuing Lamborghini’s tradition of showcasing its legendary V12 engines. The name, which means Devil, is a return to using names of famous fighting bulls, with Diablo noted as being particularly ferocious. The original brief for the Diablo was to build a car capable of at least 196 mph and it briefly held the title of fastest production car in 1991 at 325 kmh.
In 1995, the Diablo SV (Super Veloce) was introduced, based on the original rear-wheel-drive model. It featured an upgraded 510 hp engine, larger brakes, and a 3-piece adjustable spoiler. Distinctive elements included dual front fog lamps (instead of quad), front brake cooling ducts, large engine cover air intakes, and an optional SV logo on the sides.
