The S281 is a range of modified Ford Mustangs by Saleen, with the 2000 model being a derivate of the fourth generation Mustang, and a preceded model – the Saleen S281 E – derived from the fifth generation Mustang.<\/p>\n
Based on the Mustang GT, it has a 4.6 liter single overhead camshaft V8 engine with a roots-type supercharger that increases power to 365 hp (272 kW). Other notable upgrades include a full body kit, bespoke suspension, 18 inch wheels and close-ratio gearbox.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s no secret that Saleen\u2019s creations are, for the most part, based on existing Ford models and then honed to perfection as trackday weapons. Saleen\u2019s had a long time to perfect this art, and the S281\u2019s unflappable handling (despite retaining the ancient rear live axle setup most other have abandoned) speaks to their mastery. No drag-only proposition, the S281 demolishes the skidpad and is perfectly content blasting through corners. It wouldn\u2019t be a Saleen if there wasn\u2019t some attention paid to the engine, and in this car\u2019s case it\u2019s the addition of a supercharger and intercooler that makes a huge difference in terms of available torque. The harder the S281 is pushed, the faster it wants to go, so the 0-60 mph numbers only tell part of the tale (although its 5 second run to 60 isn\u2019t slow by any measure). Saleen\u2019s body modifications also add aggression to the mustang\u2019s lines, and a large 2.5-inch exhaust system makes all the right noises.
