The goal of this mod was to create a fun yet realistically modified NA Miata equipped with a Honda K-series engine. The default tuning is designed to deliver a fun and lively vintage/modern race car feel for the street, with small, twisty tracks and mountain roads in mind. The car is fully adjustable, just as it would be in real life, and the default suspension settings have been chosen based on accurately calculated values derived from common spring rates used on high-quality aftermarket coilovers, taking into account the Miata’s suspension geometry. The engine’s power/torque curve was based on several dyno sheets from other similar K-series builds; the 6-speed gear ratios match those of an NB 6-speed, and the final drive options are all real ratios that were available in the factory Torsen differentials. I created the Modern Track tire model from scratch, drawing on real-world experience with a Miata on ultra-high-performance tires such as Nankang AR1s.
Disclaimer:
I do not claim sole credit for creating this mod. While I handled the engine dynamics, tuning, and overall performance of the car myself, I used INFTY /KOALA’s K-Spec MX5 as a base. This provided a clean model with the wheels, hardtop, and interior already in place. Some issues with Koala’s K-Spec mod were fixed, such as incorrect tire radius and body offset that were causing problems with ride height and floating wheels. I also sourced a relatively accurate Honda engine sound from Tiago Silva’s EK9 Turbo Civic (without the turbo sounds in this version). The engine swap, suspension, brakes, transmission, and tires were all modified from the base mod by myself.
