In the autumn of 2011, Citroën launched its third model in the premium sub-brand DS line-up with the arrival of the DS 5 in European markets. Previewed by the C-SportLounge concept car in 2005, the DS 5 aimed to blend hatchback and estate styling into a distinctive shooting-brake silhouette.

Sharing its platform with the Peugeot 3008 rather than the Citroën C5 as its name might suggest, the DS 5 offered a unique proposition in the compact executive segment. Its design, penned by Frédéric Soubirou, drew inspiration from the world of aviation, a theme particularly evident in the cockpit-like interior. With a head-up display and a distinctive array of controls, the cabin aimed to evoke the feel of a jet aeroplane.

The initial engine range included both petrol and diesel options, with the 1.6-liter THP petrol engine offering a spirited driving experience. The specific 1.6 THP 165 variant, available from 2011, produced 163 BHP. This front-wheel-drive hatchback provided a blend of Gallic style and respectable performance.
