This is an original model tuned by “Gran Turismo”, based on the Volkswagen Golf IV GTI (2001).
The following is the description of the base model.
The direction of growth taken by the VW Golf became more apparent in the 4th generation model that appeared in 1998. The Golf IV not only increased in body size, but it stood out among others in quality. The quality and precision of the 4th generation Gold was so high that there were those who called it “equal to a premium car”.
For the GTI model of this 4th generation Gold, there were 2 types of engines made available according to the destination. The GTI imported to Japan was 1.8L DOHC, 20-valve inline 4 cylinder turbo, producing 148 BHP/5700 rpm. As you can tell from the rpm range of the maximum torque, the engine boaster flat torque, rather than peak power. In their home country, there was also a GTI with the traditional normally aspirated engine. This produced 123 BHP from the same 1.8L engine.
But the major topic in the 4th generation GTI is the change in its character. It had changed from a hot-hatch, to a model like a GT model. When driven, it had a ride quality that made it hard to believe it was a sports model, and it had an air about it that made it feel more like a comfortable high speed sedan.
The GTI from the first generation model, was originally a model that was supposed to be “a high performance compact that allowed high speed cruising in comfort and safety”. When thought of this way, the evolution of this 4th generation GTI is obviously justified. But in the Golf, there are users who still desire that intense driving feel. For those users, Volkswagen introduced a new model of the Golf called the R32. These are events that are iconic in the transformation of the GTI.
