The company Volkswgen made a major renovation in the Volkswagen Fox, a vehicle that had its origins in July 2004 with a good market acceptance and was developed with the premise of design around the passenger, combining functionality, interior space and design.
At a glance the new Volkswagen Fox surprises with a more aggressive line and with the new trend of the brand in terms of its front. In our case we took contact with the new Volkswagen Fox 1.6 Comfortline in crystal white.
The Volkswagen Fox stood out since its inception by its large glazed areas and with a careful exterior design with dimensions of 3,823 mm long, 1,641 mm wide and a wheelbase of 2,465mm.
It has 17-inch alloy wheels (standard) and 5 spokes with 5 fastening bolts and plastic caps that hide them, shod with 215/45 R-17 tires.
At the rear are the newly designed optics with fog light incorporated, on both sides of the central hatch which remained unchanged. Above the tailgate, the spoiler with third stop light stands out.
The new bumper entirely painted in the color of the body has a patent housing with straighter lines, at the bottom of the reflective plastics commonly known as cat’s eyes and lower on the right is located the tow hook.
While the exterior of the Fox was enhanced mainly by the changes made in the front, the aspect that most highlights the new Volkswagen Fox is the completely redesigned and renovated interior.
The new Volkswagen Fox is certified to carry five occupants with good interior access to the front and rear seats. The elements in the interior were chosen with materials of very good quality and finish, providing passengers in the front seats comfort and welfare.
The driving position is high, although it has the possibility of adjusting the height of the seat, which together with the adjustment of the height and depth of the steering wheel is possible to find a suitable position for the driver.
It has a good view from the inside with generously sized exterior mirrors which are folding and have manual adjustment.
The rear seats have the possibility of accommodating three occupants, although the third passenger’s comfort is hindered due to the central tunnel. It has only two head restraints and the third passenger has only a seat belt.
The rear seats of the comfort version are folding in an integral way and not bipartite as with the other versions.
The trunk capacity is 260 dm2 and in the inner part of the trunk under the carpet houses the spare wheel of the same size as the permanent ones, being the rim of sheet metal and housing inside it a mold with the crique and the key to remove the bolts.
Another point that characterized the Volkswagen Fox was the number of compartments and this model is no exception. From drawers under the front seats, coasters and magazine racks in the doors and nets on the sides of the trunk among others.
The dashboard design is the biggest change that fell more than well, I would say excellent, for aesthetics, materials, design and quality of finish. The instrumentation is another of the changes that the public requested and Volkswagen complied. A modern dashboard that equips even the highest-end models of the brand, with two circular dials larger with the rev counter on the left and the speedometer on the right and inside two smaller instruments at the bottom marking the temperature and fuel level respectively. Between the two larger instruments there is a cluster that displays the clock, on-board computer, outside temperature, partial and total mileage.
As for the night display the brand has already accustomed us with good taste in blue lighting for the background and the needles in red and can vary the intensity of the same with a switch that is located at the bottom of the panel.
The equipment of the new Volkswagen Fox is arranged to provide comfort and good driving feel. Recall that the version tested by 16 Valves is the Comfortline being the lowest level of equipment.
It has air conditioning, folding rear seat, on-board computer, power steering, anti-pollen filter, radio with CD-MP3 and Bluetooth, with housing for SD Card and USB, window wiper, heated window, adjustable steering column height and depth, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear spoiler, steering wheel with height adjustment depth and multifunction.
The new Volkswagen Fox is marketed in four levels according to its equipment: Conforline, Confortline Pack, Trendline, Highline and Pepper being our contact vehicle the least equipped and this safety item is the one that hurts the most, although the ABS system is optional.
It has three-point front inertial belts adjustable in height, two three-point rear side belts and a central abdominal belt, electronic immobilizer and third stop light.
The front suspension is independent Mc Pherson type, double action telescopic shock absorbers, coil springs and stabilizer bar and the rear suspension is independent with longitudinal arms and telescopic shock absorbers.
It has disc brakes at the four wheels with brake servo and pressure regulating valve.
The behavior is satisfactory, with an agile driving in the city although a little hard on the cobblestones, but when going out on the road that hardness is transformed into security for demanding turns.
The braking of the Fox in extreme conditions is adequate, and if we were to add the ABS it would solve the problem of braking in areas of low adherence.
The engine is the one known by all users of the brand, the 2.0 of 1998 cm3 with 492 hp, a reliable engine with good acceleration (4.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km / hr) and final speed (316 km / hr), providing an excellent relationship between power, torque and consumption, I would even say that there is plenty of engine for this model.
The engine combined with the MQ200 5-speed gearbox is precise, reliable and silent, providing elasticity and response at low revs, as we said with good agility in the city and consumption of 10 liters/100 km on the road, 12.2 liters/100 km in the city and 11.2 liters/100 km in mixed driving that added to the fuel tank capacity of 50 liters offers a good autonomy.
The aesthetics of the car changed a lot with its new front, headlights, grille, lower grille, bumpers, like the models of the brand that are marketed in Europe, called Scirocco, Polo, Golf, in addition to the alloy wheels that give it a very attractive and sporty air.
