The Voisin C25 is not only one of the most beautiful cars of the thirties, but also a very rare and, as a result, expensive car of that era. It was expensive during the years of production, and this car is even more expensive now.
Gabriel Voisin was an aviation pioneer and a brilliant automobile designer, but he was completely devoid of entrepreneurial spirit. Because only a romantic can produce an ultra-expensive car during a financial crisis. And only a romantic can create a car with such an original design. The design of the Voisin C25 played with aviation motifs, which had not previously been seen in Voisin’s cars; after the First World War, the designer greatly lost interest in aviation.
In addition to the original body lines, the car had one more feature – a sliding roof. With the help of two vacuum pumps, the roof was moved back, and the car turned into almost a convertible. In order to somehow maintain a view back after the transformation, there were several portholes on the roof.
The car was supposed to be equipped with an in-line seven-cylinder (7 cylinders!) engine. However, the engine turned out to be very capricious, and it was decided to abandon it in favor of the time-tested in-line six, with a displacement of 3 liters and a power of 90 hp. The engine was equipped with two Zenith carburetors.
Despite its decent dimensions, four meters long, the Voisin C25 turned out to be very light for a car of this class, 1150 kg.
The car was presented to the public at the 1934 Paris Motor Show. There were very few orders for the car. The Voisin C25 cost 40 thousand francs, a lot of money, it was 25 percent more expensive than the Bugatti Type 57. Hence the small number of cars built. Only 7 pieces.
