Renault often creates attractive sports models in their production model lineup, and this second generation Megane is no exception. This was the Megane Renault Sport added at the Frankfurt Motor show in 2003.
The engine tuned by Renault Sport, Renault’s motorsports division produces 221 BHP, with a maximum torque of 30.6 kgfm from its DOHC inline 4 cylinder turbo, combined with a 6 speed MT. It is very quick off the line, accelerating from 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds, and 0-3280.8 ft in 26.7 seconds, and this is thanks to an engine that continues to produce 90% of its maximum torque across a wide power band, from 2000 rpm to 6000 rpm. This allows for very easy driving and lazy shifting, almost as if you were driving an automatic.
The suspension while tightened, still maintains its smooth flexibility distinctive to a Renault, and the brakes are reinforced with 4 piston calipers and ventilated discs in the front. These specs make the car ready to be taken immediately to the circuit.
Because it is based on the Megane, a model that is suited for family use, it is available in not just 3 doors but in 5 doors as well, and there are no wild exterior changes. But that just makes it all the more a sleeper, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is a sports model for the mature adult.
